Slips, trips, and falls are the most common cause of injury in the workplace, causing over 40% of all reported injuries, and often leading to other serious accidents. Slips and trips also account for half of all reported injuries to members of the public in workplaces where there is public access, such as hospitals, shops, and restaurants.

HSE statistics suggest that most of these accidents are slips, most of which happen when floor surfaces are contaminated by water, talc, grease, etc.

Your legal obligation

As an employer, The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (HSW Act) requires you to ensure the health and safety of all your employees and anyone who may be affected by their work, so far as is reasonably practicable. This includes taking steps to control slip and trip risks.

The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 also requires you to carry out slip and trip risk assessments, and, where necessary, take action to address them.

The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 requires your floors to be suitable, in good condition and free from obstructions. People should be able to move around safely.

Slip Testing Services

The Pendulum Slip Test is the preferred method of testing of the HSE, and the UK Slip Resistance Group – a world-leading independent authority on slip resistance. Envirofacilities UK Ltd carries out nationwide slip testing at numerous facilities such as bars, kitchens, restaurants, factories, offices, swimming pools, transport hubs, retail outlets and reception areas.

We can test any type of surface and provide HSE compliant floor slip risk assessments. The Pendulum Test is extremely accurate, fully compliant with HSE regulations, and allows for results to be shown in wet and dry conditions.

Our slip testing technicians are fully trained and qualified to use the latest equipment and follow all the procedures in BS7976 – the method of operation and calibration of the Pendulum Tester. Full certification and a detailed report will be provided after testing.

Following the test results, we can also apply a non-slip coating to your floor should it be required.
